Global Broad-Based Initiatives (GBI) Take Off in 2022
February 15, 2022USDBC’s 2022 allocation from USDA/FAS includes additional funding for two GBIs that started in 2021 and funding for a new GBI as a partner with the U.S. Dry Pea and Lentil Council (USDPLC). USDBC’s new project focused on creating alliances to ensure science-based tolerances or Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for imports of U.S. dry beans, peas, lentils, and rice, the Crop Protection Alliance Coalition for Trade (CPACT) received an additional $100,000 in funding. This will cover targeted outreach and attendance at global meetings. The Alliance for Pulse Health in Mexico and Latin America also received a bump of $125,000 as it did not receive full funding in the previous allocation. This allows for expansion to Latin America with the full slate of programmed activities to raise awareness of pulse health and nutrition. USDBC is also an implementing partner together with USDPLC in a new project focused on The Role of U.S. Pulse Crops in Helping to Achieve Carbon Neutrality in Europe. This project consists of activities that will communicate to the target market, Europe, how U.S. pulses contribute to the health of the planet and the health of consumers. Continued and new funding support from USDA/FAS allows us to expand our reach and keep moving into new and critical areas that require outreach and messaging to ensure competitiveness and avoid trade disruption.
