U.S. Cuba Agricultural Business Conference to Resume in 2022
January 6, 2022The U.S. Agricultural Coalition for Cuba (USACC) is planning to resume the annual agriculture conferences in Havana as Cuba is reopening to international visitors. The conference is planned for February 2 – 4, 2022 but may be delayed depending on expected travel restrictions. Additionally, flights between the U.S. and Cuba for business travel are still restricted and expensive. Covid numbers have been declining in Cuba as 90 percent of the population is fully vaccinated. Borders opened for international visitors on November 15. USACC’s business conference is a great opportunity to renew contacts, meet officials, producers, buyers, and processors, and learn about recent policy changes affecting agriculture trade, investment, and production. Additionally, the conference will engage with policymakers to understand the current political relations between the U.S. and Cuba and will include a field visit to see farms, cooperatives, and food industry facilities.
As a member of USACC, USDBC together with other agricultural colleagues participates in activities that encourage the normalization of U.S./Cuba agricultural trade. Cuba has been an export market for U.S. dry beans in the past and most certainly will be one again when trade resumes and financing is in place. USDBC will be sending a representative to this conference.
