On February 25, 2021, USDBC and Harvest Plus (HP) will kick off a newly inaugurated partnership with a seminar on the contribution of dry beans to global food systems. Harvest Plus is part of the CGIAR Research Program on Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH) which helps realize the potential of agricultural development to deliver gender-equitable health and nutritional benefits to the poor. CGIAR is a global agriculture research partnership for a food-secure future. The HarvestPlus program is based at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and collaborates with multiple CGIAR centers and partner organizations.

Our partnership is focused on the production and consumption of beans of all varieties as a key element in nutritious diets among vulnerable populations in emerging markets and economies. It also focuses on bean consumption among consumers in developed economies as a contributor to healthy, active lives. As part of this initiative, we will be looking to leverage additional partnerships to advance research on improving the nutritional content of beans through the use of biofortification and other technologies.  We are working to promote the benefits of beans in reaching the (United Nations) Sustainable Development Goals in the fight against hidden hunger (malnutrition). Our upcoming seminar will bring together leaders from various disciplines in the field of nutrition for a vibrant discussion on the work at hand.
