Blue Zones is a research-driven initiative that promotes healthy eating and lifestyles with a view to enhanced longevity. It was founded by Dan Buettner, National Geographic Fellow, and multiple New York Times best-selling author.

Blue Zones is dedicated to helping people around the world live healthier through research based on the lifestyles and eating habits in five global locales where people live the longest. These five global locales are called Blue Zones and are found in Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; Nicoya, Costa Rica; Ikaria, Greece; and Loma Linda, California. Blue Zones also draws on longevity research and highly respected experts for articles, recipes, and other information.

Blue Zones’ research makes a direct correlation between longevity and the consumption of dry beans, establishing a strong convergence with the goals of the U.S. dry bean industry. As a result, we are very excited to welcome two important experts, Remar Sutton and Jessica Pastore, from Blue Zones as speakers at BeanCon21, which takes place March 2 – 4, 2021 (Europe, Americas, and Middle East) and March 3 – 5, 2021 (Asia).

Remar Sutton is a renowned author who has traveled the world to investigate health claims.   At 79 years of age, Mr. Sutton is an expert on Aging the Blue Zones Way. He will serve as the closing BeanCon21 Keynote speaker on March 4 (Europe, Americas, and Middle East) and March 5 (Asia).

Jessica Pastore recently joined Blue Zones’ Food and Nutrition Team, bringing diverse experience in product development and strategy with plant-based brands and retail grocers. She previously spent four years at Whole Foods Market in Austin, Texas, where she gathered experience in pricing analytics, competitive positioning, consumer insights, and strategy development. Ms. Pastore will be serving as a member of the BeanCon21 panel, “Beans for the Future”, which will discuss strategic product development and marketing to upcoming generations of consumers on March 4 (Europe, Americas, and Middle East) and March 5 (Asia).
