The first half of 2020 has been a time of unprecedented and unexpected challenges. In the dry bean world we have faced continued challenges from trade retaliation in some markets, we had a difficult harvest in 2019 due to unprecedented weather difficulties, and now disruptions to our travel and trade servicing agenda due to COVID 19. However, we have also seen some unexpected and advantageous benefits such as sky high demand for our beans as a result of the dual drivers of people stocking up on shelf stable foods during a pandemic and a trend towards healthy or plant based eating. Beans are in the spotlight and we couldn’t be more excited to continue to provide the high quality, delicious, and diverse U.S. origin beans that both domestic and global customers have come to enjoy.
To that end, we are moving into peak planning for our inaugural global Bean Buyers event, BeanCON21 to be held March 2 – 4, 2021 in Las Vegas Nevada! Participants will include bean buyers from all over the world, industry stakeholders, researchers, U.S. bean growers and dealers. This will be a one stop shop for all things dry beans including crop updates, breeding, and consumption trends, and the proliferation of plant based eating. The overarching theme will be global bean innovation in packaging, consumption, presentation, and ingredients. We are excited to feature a keynote speaker from the Culinary Institute of America and will be announcing further details of the speaker lineup in the next months. We will also be reaching out to several industry and allied interests to offer a range of sponsorship opportunities that will allow for enhanced exposure at this global forum. Much more to come but for now, please log on to www.BeanCon21.com to take a look at event details, panel sessions, and hotel information. Stay tuned.
