USDBC’s Food Aid Representative was a delegate to The Global Child Nutrition Forum’s (GCNF) Annual Conference in Siem Reap, Cambodia December 2 – 6, 2019. GCNF is the largest international conference on school meals in the world and provides an opportunity for implementers to share experiences with school meal programs and learn what others are doing in their own countries.   This year’s forum specifically focused on; the main challenges countries face in implementing school feeding programs, the importance of setting standards and ensuring quality in school feeding programs, and exploring links between investing in school nutrition and the development of human capital. U.S. dry beans are utilized frequently in USDA’s McGovern Dole school feeding programs and in the last few years, we have seen those tonnages increase. We are interested in new opportunities and new developments that will allow us to enter into new partnerships to increase the use of both beans and bean based products (flours, biscuits) for nutrition and school feeding. The Forum was an excellent networking opportunity and a chance to renew important contacts with several implementing agencies. Full report on members only website.
