White Beans in Inner Mongolia
A report just in from USDBC’s on the ground consultant in China, suggests that increasingly, China is moving toward a policy of producing the foods they consume and encouraging domestic consumption of locally produced dry beans. Additionally there are government incentives to increase soy plantings which is resulting in a decrease of dry bean acreage. USDBC continues to monitor this dynamic to determine the impact of a possible decrease in Chinese dry bean exports to several of our own target markets.

USDBC’s recent harvest report suggests a decline in salable stock of almost all classes of Chinese dry beans including white, light speckled kidney, and dark red kidney beans. In particular, the report notes that “Chinese white bean farmers are nearly extinct,” with a minimal salable stock available. The full report will be available on the members only website shortly.
