US Dry Bean Market Dynamics in the European Union, Part I

Navy beans were the top US dry bean export to the EU in 2017, with quantities reaching 62,870 MT, for a value of $43.5 million. This represents an increase of 41% in quantity and of 55% in value over 2016.

Dark Red Kidney bean exports were also up in 2017: 36,000 MT, a 27% increase over 2016 in quantity, for a value of $34.6 million, an increase of 52%.

US garbanzo beans were one of the driving forces behind the increase of US dry bean exports to the European Union. The US exported 37,124 MT of garbanzos to the EU in 2017, a 67% increase over 2016. US garbanzo exports to the EU in 2017 were valued at $36.3 million, an increase of 71% over 2016.
